Henri Cartier

  1. What is the photographer’s real name and year he or she was born? Is he/she still alive? Henri Cartier-Bresson was born in August 22, 1908 and died August 3, 2004
  2. What is their style of photography (ex: photojournalism, editorial, documentary, advertising, portraits, magazine, sports, war)? He was a French humanist photographer consider a master of candid photography. 
  3. Are there any special photography techniques this photographer uses in his/her work?  (Think about composition, depth of field, history…) He take pictures of the object without distracting the it and that makes the picture more "natural"


  1. Who does/did the photographer work for? Cartier worked on a handful of Renoir film, including his mom acclaimed work, La Regle Du jeu 

  1. What type of cameras and lens does this photographer work with, and why?He used a Leica 35mm rangefinder camera fitted with a normal 50mm lens or occasionally a wide angle lens for landscape.
  2. What type of lighting does this photographer primarily use and why? he never used the flash because he thought that was like " coming to a concert with a pistol in your hand"
  3. Who are some of your photographer’s early influences?
  4. Are there any interesting stories about this photographer or his/her work? In 1940 at St. Die in the Vosges mountains, he was captured  by German solders and spend 35 months prison camps with the Nazis. He try to scapes from the camps but he fail twice; however he was successful at his 3rd try.

  1. What do you like (or not like) about their work? I like that 
  2. Why did you select this photographer?selected this photographer because he has a cool name and is similar to my name. He also has some unique pictures; however there aren't as important as his name.
  3. Describe your reaction to the artists work.  Does it look mysterious? Is the lighting incredible?  Is the editing really interesting?  Did the photographer capture the subjects in a unique way?  Ask yourself why you chose this artist and answer the question. One thing that I really admire about him and I think is interesting  is that he is a master of the candid photography meaning he capture that object in motion with even distracting the object while the process of taking the picture.
